VX220
The Vauxhall VX220 is based on the chassis of a Lotus Elise and built at the Lotus factory in
- Mid-engine configuration
- Lightweight aluminium chassis
- Independent, double wishbone suspension all round
In non-turbo form it is powered by a GM Z22SE aluminium 2.2-litre ECOTEC engine producing 147 BHP and largely developed by Lotus.
The car weighs 870 kg, giving it a power to weight ratio of 169 bhp/tonne.
It will reach 60 mph in 5.7 sec with a top speed just shy of 140 mph.

Imagine a roller skate with a large engine strapped to it. Add in a couple of seat belts, a roll bar, ABS and an air bag to pacify the DOT. You get a VX220 and a bloody big grin.
