By chance I passed a set of wheels at Halford of all places last week that were on offer @ £299. Looking at the sizes I was 85% sure they would fit but like an idiot decided to ask a member of staff for reassurance. It was at this point I think I slipped into Gibberish as a look of deep distress crossed the face of the victim.
To cut a long story short, I explained that I can’t bring the car in as it has no engine, gearbox, seats, electrics etc and funnily enough NO WHEELS!
No I don’t want to bring a hub in because I’ve just spent the last 3 months putting them on!
So in short it was my call and I couldn’t exchange them if they didn’t fit. So I’m off home, in the garage and make a template for the stud holes.
Back to Halfwits and sure enough the holes in my template line with the ones in the wheel. XLNT! I’ll have a set.
So I speak to a guy who has a little badge that designates him as a “Ripspeed specialist”, he gets his book out and asks what running gear is the kit car using? so I tell him sierra. Oh right, he says, these wheels will fit no problem. NO SHIT!
Any how, I got them back home and starts to fit them, only to find I’ve got 3 left ones and 1 right one!
So I still need to pick up a fixing kit, which they did not have in stock and get one of the tyres refitted the correct way round.
On the positive side, the car is now a rolling chassis with nice new wheels and tyres.
Oh yeah, nearly forgot – a Propshaft is on order.
