Have ordered two engine mounts from www.autovaux.co.uk for the VX in time for the weekend with a little luck.
Have also found some replacement Nylon Screw Rivets or scrivets on eBay. These hold the wheel arch shields in place and are basically crap plastic fixings. They are supposed to be removable plastic rivets but are really single use plastic rivets that round of and break when you try to coax them out.
I often wonder why there are engineers out there than continue to waste their time design crap like this. It really isn’t fit for purpose and couldn’t they find better stuff to do? Take the plastic containers that you get cold meat in from Sainsburys for example. There is a little plastic tab in the corner that you would think was there to hold while you peal back the top cover of the pack. Ah but NO!, the slightest pull on this tab, it comes off in your hand and you have to open the pack with a knife. What about the stupid plastic clip top thingys on the top of orange juice cartons that are there to reseal after you’ve pored a glass of juice. They simply come off in your hand too, complete with the bit that is mounted to the carton. Then the little silver tab thing that seals the hole comes out in sympathy with the cold ham packet when you pull it and again you have to open the carton with a knife.
Knifes are good, I like knifes and 6″ x 6″ fence posts, they are very flexible tools. I could find a thousand and one uses for a knife or a fence post and I’d happy demonstrate this to any food packaging engineers that want to defend their work.
