I got the Zed frame back from Bournes yesterday. It’s been powder coated in gloss black and looks luvly. Bournes have done a nice job with no obvious floors or blemishes.
Slight problem is that I left the swing arm bushes in. I thought the bushes were metal, however they turned out to be nylon and the heat treatment after spraying has knackered them. No problem really since I’ve subsequently discovered that the nylon bushes were a cheap after market replacement and there should be needle roller bearing in the swing arm. A bearing set can be supplied by Z-Power for about £80.
I had the tyres removed from the wheels to assess the state of the rims before dropping them off to be rebuilt. Turns out that they are shot. Water has obviously got in and sat on the inside surface of the rims causing a fair amount of corrosion. New rims will be needed along with fresh spoke so now I just need to get the elbow grease out and clean the hubs up ready to looks as nice as the new frame.
Plan is to try and get enough stuff together for the bank holiday weekend to enable me to get the frame back on its wheels again.
